Two things you shouldn’t do
Don’t suddenly stop metoprolol. Abrupt withdrawal can cause serious heart-related problems, particularly in people taking it for angina or heart disease. Your prescriber should guide any dose reduction.

You develop new or worsening shortness of breath, wheezing, fainting, severe dizziness, swelling of the legs, or a very slow/irregular heartbeat. Chest pain that is new or doesn’t go away requires emergency evaluation.
