7 Signs of Arthritis You Shouldn’t Ignore
Arthritis is not just “normal aging.” Early recognition can help protect joints, reduce pain, and prevent worsening damage. Consider speaking with a healthcare professional if you notice these warning signs:
1. Persistent joint pain
Pain that lasts for weeks, keeps returning, or interferes with daily activities may be a sign of arthritis rather than a temporary strain.
2. Joint swelling or warmth
Swollen, tender, or warm joints can indicate inflammation. This is especially important if swelling occurs without a clear injury.
3. Morning stiffness lasting a long time
Stiffness that lasts more than 30–60 minutes after waking can be a sign of inflammatory arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
4. Reduced range of motion
Difficulty bending, gripping, walking, climbing stairs, or moving a joint normally may indicate joint changes.
5. Grinding, clicking, or popping with pain
Some joint noises are harmless, but sounds combined with pain, swelling, or weakness may point to cartilage wear or joint problems.
6. Joint deformity or changes in appearance
Changes such as crooked fingers, enlarged joints, or altered alignment should be evaluated.
7. Fatigue, fever, or unexplained symptoms
Some types of arthritis are autoimmune conditions and may cause tiredness, low-grade fever, or feeling generally unwell along with joint symptoms
