Slow-Cooker Beer Bread

Sure—here’s a simple beer bread you can bake in a slow cooker. It’s especially good if you want a no-knead, low-effort loaf.

Slow-Cooker Beer Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 can or bottle (12 oz / 355 mL) beer
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, plus extra for greasing

Instructions

  1. Prepare the slow cooker: Grease a 6-quart slow cooker. Line the bottom with parchment paper if desired.
  2. Make the batter: Mix the flour and sugar in a bowl. Slowly pour in the beer and stir just until combined. Don’t overmix.
  3. Add to cooker: Transfer the thick batter to the greased slow cooker and smooth the top. Brush with melted butter.
  4. Cook: Cover with the lid and cook on HIGH for about 2–2½ hours, or until the center is set and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  5. Brown the top: Slow cookers don’t brown bread well. For a crispier top, transfer the loaf to a baking sheet and place it under a broiler for a few minutes, watching closely.
  6. Cool: Let it rest for about 10–15 minutes before slicing.

Tip: Use a beer you enjoy drinking—the flavor comes through in the bread. For a slightly richer loaf, add ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese or 1–2 tablespoons of chopped herbs.

The alcohol in beer is not guaranteed to completely cook away, so keep that in mind when serving children, people avoiding alcohol, or anyone for whom alcohol is medically contraindicated.
