I’m tired of learning stuff I feel like I should already know Any ideas what this gap is actually for?

If by “this gap” you mean the feeling of “Why am I still having to learn things I feel like I should already know?”—it may be less about a knowledge gap and more about a permission gap.

You may be expecting yourself to already know things that nobody actually taught you, or things that are only obvious after you’ve encountered them.

A useful way to think about it:

  • Knowledge gap: “I don’t know this yet.”
  • Experience gap: “I’ve never had to deal with this before.”
  • Confidence gap: “I probably know enough, but I don’t trust myself.”
  • Expectation gap: “I think I should have known this already.”
  • Context gap: “I know the information, but I don’t know when or how to apply it.”

And honestly, learning something late doesn’t mean you failed earlier. It often means you’re encountering a situation for the first time.

So perhaps the gap is actually for turning information into judgment—figuring out what matters, what doesn’t, and when you can safely say, “I know enough.”
