All you need is a dishwasher tablet! The oven will be like new again

Can a Dishwasher Tablet Clean a Dirty Oven? Here’s What to Know

A dishwasher tablet can help loosen grease and baked-on residue, but the idea that it will make every oven “like new again” is an exaggeration. It can be a useful cleaning trick when used carefully, but ovens vary and some surfaces can be damaged by harsh cleaning methods.

A safer dishwasher tablet method (for suitable ovens)

  1. Turn off the oven and let it cool completely.
  2. Remove oven racks and clean them separately.
  3. Place a dishwasher tablet in a heat-safe bowl.
  4. Add warm water and allow the tablet to dissolve.
  5. Wearing gloves, use the solution with a sponge or cloth to wipe greasy areas.
  6. Let stubborn spots sit for a short time, then wipe with clean water.
  7. Dry the surface with a microfiber cloth.

Important precautions

  • Do not use dishwasher tablets on heating elements, electrical parts, or fans.
  • Avoid getting liquid into vents or openings.
  • Test a small hidden area first.
  • Do not mix dishwasher detergent with bleach, vinegar, or other cleaners.
  • Avoid abrasive scrubbing on enamel or coated surfaces.

For heavy oven buildup

A dedicated oven cleaner or a manufacturer-approved cleaning method may work better for thick, carbonized grease.

To keep your oven cleaner longer:

  • Wipe spills after cooking once the oven is cool.
  • Use a baking tray or liner to catch drips (if safe for your oven).
  • Clean racks regularly.

A dishwasher tablet can be a handy cleaning aid, but it is not a guaranteed “miracle” solution—and using the wrong method can damage some oven finishes.
