That headline is misleading and much more alarming than the evidence supports.
The version of the video I found appears to claim that drinking coffee immediately after waking is the dangerous morning habit, partly because of dehydration and a morning rise in blood pressure. (Video Highlight)
What the evidence actually says
- Blood pressure can naturally be higher in the morning, and morning hypertension is associated with increased cardiovascular and stroke risk, particularly in older people with hypertension. (PubMed)
- But that does not mean a normal morning routine triples your stroke risk.
- The claim that coffee immediately after waking causes strokes through dehydration or “thick blood” is not established by the research I found.
- In fact, the study cited in connection with morning blood-pressure surges found that morning BP is a predictor of stroke risk, but it did not establish that drinking coffee after waking triples stroke risk. (PubMed)
What matters much more after 60
The major modifiable stroke risks include high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, atrial fibrillation, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol use. Managing these is far more important than worrying about whether coffee is consumed 10 minutes or an hour after waking.
Bottom line: You don’t need to stop drinking morning coffee because of this headline. If you have hypertension, however, regularly monitoring your blood pressure and taking prescribed medication correctly is genuinely important.
If you paste the full “8 morning habits” list from the video, I can go through each one and mark it TRUE, PARTLY TRUE, or FALSE.
