How to Use It Safely
Baking soda is a popular household cleaner because its mild abrasiveness can help loosen grime and absorb some odors. It can be useful for light to moderate grease, but it is not a magic solution for every type of grease buildup. Very heavy or baked-on grease may require a dedicated degreaser.
1. Kitchen stovetops and burners
How to use it:
- Mix baking soda with a small amount of warm water to make a paste.
- Apply to greasy areas.
- Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
- Wipe with a damp cloth or sponge.
Tip: Avoid scrubbing too aggressively on delicate surfaces to prevent scratches.
2. Oven surfaces
How to use it:
- Spread a baking soda paste over greasy areas.
- Leave it for several hours or overnight for tougher buildup.
- Wipe away with a damp cloth.
Note: Do not use baking soda paste on heating elements or electrical components.
3. Kitchen cabinets
Grease from cooking can build up on cabinet doors.
How to use it:
- Add baking soda to warm water.
- Use a soft cloth to gently clean the surface.
- Dry afterward to prevent moisture damage.
Caution: Test a small hidden area first, especially on painted or wooden cabinets.
4. Pans and cookware
How to use it:
- Sprinkle baking soda on the greasy surface.
- Add warm water.
- Let it soak before scrubbing.
For stuck-on grease, a little dish soap combined with hot water is often more effective.
5. Range hood filters
How to use it:
- Soak removable metal filters in hot water with dish soap and baking soda.
- Scrub gently and rinse thoroughly
