My nana taught me this hack to make dusty blinds sparkle in 2 mins with 0 work. Here’s how it works

That kind of headline is designed to grab attention. While there’s no way to make dusty blinds “sparkle in 2 minutes with 0 work,” you can clean them quickly with a simple method.

Quick Blind-Cleaning Hack

You’ll need:

  • A microfiber cloth or microfiber duster
  • A bowl of warm water
  • A few drops of mild dish soap
  • Optional: equal parts water and white vinegar (for vinyl or aluminum blinds only)

How to do it:

  1. Close the blinds in one direction.
  2. Wipe from top to bottom with a dry microfiber cloth to remove loose dust.
  3. For stuck-on grime, lightly dampen the cloth with the soapy water (or the vinegar solution for non-wood blinds).
  4. Wipe each slat, then rotate the blinds and repeat on the other side.
  5. Dry with a clean microfiber cloth if needed.

A Handy Trick

Slip an old cotton sock over your hand, lightly dampen it, and run your fingers along each slat. This lets you clean both sides of a slat at once and can speed up the job.

Avoid These Mistakes

  • Wood blinds: Don’t soak them or use vinegar, as excess moisture can damage or warp the finish.
  • Fabric blinds: Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions instead of using water.
  • Any blinds: Avoid abrasive scrubbers that can scratch painted or coated surfaces.

For routine maintenance, dusting your blinds once every week or two makes deep cleaning much easier and helps keep them looking like new.
