Never step on this weed; it’s considered a ‘gold mine’ in the garden …𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲

That claim is usually referring to a beneficial “weed” that gardeners value, not a plant that should literally be stepped on or avoided at all costs. Many so-called weeds can act as soil indicators, pollinator plants, or natural fertilizers.

Common examples of “garden gold mine” weeds include:

  • Dandelion – deep roots can bring minerals closer to the soil surface and provide early food for pollinators.
  • Nettle – can be used to make nutrient-rich compost tea (though it can sting skin).
  • Clover – helps add nitrogen to soil and supports bees.
  • Plantain (Plantago) – often grows in compacted soil and has traditional uses.

However, some weeds can be invasive or harmful, and a plant’s value depends on where it grows and what you want from your garden.

If you have a photo of the weed or know its name, I can help identify it and tell you whether it’s beneficial, edible, or one to remove.
