Don’t forget protein

Include protein-rich foods throughout the day, such as:

Eggs, poultry, fish, and lean meat
Milk, yogurt, and other dairy foods
Beans, lentils, and other legumes
Nuts and seeds
Tofu and other soy foods

For people with sarcopenia, some clinical recommendations suggest roughly 1.0–1.2 g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day, with individualized targets depending on health and nutritional status.

If you have kidney disease or another condition requiring protein restriction, don’t increase protein substantially without discussing it with your healthcare professional.

A simple muscle-preserving routine

Think strength + protein + movement:

Perform resistance exercises about 2 days per week.
Walk or perform other appropriate aerobic activity regularly.
Include a good protein source with meals.
Add balance exercises to help reduce fall risk.
Progress gradually rather than attempting heavy weights immediately.
