What does the color of your urine say about your health?

What Does the Color of Your Urine Say About Your Health?

Urine color can sometimes give you clues about hydration and health, although color alone cannot diagnose a medical condition.

💧 Clear or Very Pale

You may be drinking plenty of fluids. Completely clear urine all the time can also mean you are drinking more water than you need.

🟡 Pale Yellow

Usually a normal sign of good hydration.

🟠 Dark Yellow

You may need more fluids, especially if you have been sweating or exercising.

🟤 Brown or Tea-Colored

This can be caused by severe dehydration, certain medicines or foods, or medical conditions. If it persists, seek medical advice.

🔴 Pink or Red

Blood in the urine can cause this color and should be medically evaluated. Some foods and medicines can also change urine color.

🟢 or 🔵 Green/Blue

Certain medicines, food dyes, and some infections can occasionally cause unusual colors.

☁️ Cloudy Urine

Cloudiness can sometimes occur with dehydration, crystals, urinary infections, or other conditions.

Important: Seek medical care if you notice persistent blood-colored or brown urine, or if unusual urine color occurs with pain, fever, burning during urination, vomiting, or feeling very unwell.

Bottom line: Pale-yellow urine is commonly normal, but persistent changes in urine color deserve attention.
