What Is The Normal Blood Pressure For Each Age

There is no single “normal” blood pressure number for each age, because healthy blood pressure depends on factors such as overall health, medications, activity level, and medical conditions. In general, for adults, a blood pressure around 120/80 mmHg or lower is considered healthy.

A common guide:

Age group Typical healthy blood pressure range (approx.)
Children Varies greatly by height and age; usually lower than adults
Teenagers (13–18) Around 90–120 / 60–80 mmHg
Adults (18–39) Around 110–120 / 70–80 mmHg
Adults (40–59) Around 120–130 / 70–80 mmHg
Adults (60+) Often around 120–140 / 70–90 mmHg (individual targets vary)

Blood pressure categories for adults:

  • Normal: Less than 120/80
  • Elevated: 120–129 and less than 80
  • High blood pressure (Stage 1): 130–139 or 80–89
  • High blood pressure (Stage 2): 140+ or 90+
  • Very high: 180+ and/or 120+ (needs urgent medical attention, especially with symptoms)

A single reading does not always show your usual blood pressure. It is best measured after sitting quietly for a few minutes, with the correct cuff size, and checked on more than one occasion.

If you tell me the person’s age, blood pressure reading, and whether it was taken at rest, I can help interpret it.
