All You Need Is a Dishwasher Tablet! The Oven Will Be Like New Again
Dishwasher tablets are designed to break down grease, baked-on food, and other stubborn residues, which is why they can sometimes be useful for cleaning a dirty oven. But there are some important precautions: not every oven surface or component is suitable for dishwasher detergent.
🧽 A safer way to try the method
- Turn the oven off and let it cool completely. Never work on a hot oven.
- Remove the racks and loose crumbs.
- Put on household cleaning gloves.
- Dissolve one dishwasher tablet in a bowl of very warm water. Don’t use boiling water.
- Dip a non-abrasive sponge or microfiber cloth into the solution.
- Apply it to greasy areas of the oven interior and let it sit for several minutes so the residue can soften.
- Gently wipe away the loosened grease.
- Go over the surfaces several times with a clean, damp cloth to remove detergent residue.
- Dry the interior before using the oven again.
⚠️ Don’t put the tablet directly on the oven
Rubbing a dry dishwasher tablet directly against the oven’s enamel can scratch or damage the surface. Dishwasher detergents can also be quite alkaline, so concentrated residue shouldn’t be left behind.
Avoid getting the solution on heating elements, fans, electrical components, door seals, or controls. Also check your oven’s manufacturer’s cleaning instructions first—some ovens have special catalytic or other self-cleaning surfaces that shouldn’t be treated with detergents.
What about the oven racks?
Remove them and clean them separately according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. A dishwasher tablet solution can help with grease, but prolonged soaking may damage certain rack finishes
