Baking Soda for Dark Spots, Wrinkles & Dark Circles: What You Should Know
You may see recipes claiming that baking soda can erase dark spots, wrinkles, and dark circles. Unfortunately, there isn’t good evidence that baking soda can do this—and putting it on your face can irritate the skin, potentially making discoloration worse.
❌ Don’t Scrub Your Face With Baking Soda
Baking soda is alkaline and can disrupt the skin barrier. Irritation can make dark spots more noticeable, especially in darker skin tones. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using gentle skin-care products and stopping products that burn or sting.
For Dark Spots
A safer approach is:
- Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every day.
- Consider products containing vitamin C, azelaic acid, glycolic acid, kojic acid, or a retinoid.
- Give treatments time—dark spots often take weeks or months to fade.
For Wrinkles
Daily sunscreen and a good moisturizer are among the most useful basics. Retinoids can also help reduce fine lines and improve skin texture.
For Dark Circles
Dark circles have many possible causes, including genetics, aging, allergies, lack of sleep, and pigmentation. Baking soda won’t reliably fix the underlying cause.
