5 Signs of a Mini-Stroke in Older Adults
A mini-stroke, medically called a transient ischemic attack (TIA), happens when blood flow to part of the brain is temporarily blocked. The symptoms can look like a stroke and may disappear quickly—but they should never be ignored.
1. Sudden Face Drooping
One side of the face may suddenly droop or feel numb, especially when smiling.
2. Sudden Arm or Leg Weakness
Weakness or numbness, particularly on one side of the body, can be a warning sign.
3. Sudden Speech Problems
A person may suddenly have trouble speaking, finding words, or understanding what others are saying.
4. Sudden Vision Changes
Temporary blurred or lost vision in one or both eyes can occur.
5. Sudden Dizziness or Loss of Balance
Unexpected dizziness, difficulty walking, or loss of coordination may be a warning sign.
